HAILS REP. UNDERHEIM’S BIPARTISAN MEDICAL MARIJUANA BILL
Mondovi &
Madison – The introduction of bipartisan medical marijuana legislation
sponsored by GOP Rep. Gregg Underheim and 13 other state lawmakers is
great news for Wisconsinites with medical needs, according to the group,
Is My Medicine Legal YET?
Jacki
Rickert, Founder and executive director of IMMLY, says of the bill,
“It’s about time this comes to light. We elect our politicians to be
the voice of the people. With over 80% support for medical marijuana in
Wisconsin, I applaud the gentleman for taking the initiative and
standing up for people who are often unheard, ignored or invisible.”
“While some
would try to paint this issue as controversial, there should be nothing
controversial about preserving one’s health and quality of life,”
Rickert added.
IMMLY
director of communications Gary Storck noted, “Rep. Underheim is
correct in having said he doesn't think the average person would object
to his bill. Most Wisconsinites have to be very pleased this issue is
finally receiving serious consideration, and has bipartisan support in
the legislature.”
“With a
Republican sponsor, Health Committee chair and cancer survivor taking
the lead, this issue should finally get a fair hearing. And when those
hearings are held, we expect some very powerful and compelling testimony
from people close to this issue,” Storck added.
Rickert
called on citizens to get active, saying, “There is an urgent need not
only for medical marijuana but also for people to let their support be
known and to be a voice for those too ill to speak for themselves.
Please call or write your representatives today.”
