I gave quite a bit of thought to finally telling the story, the
true story of what the past 11 years have done, or in other
cases- have not even attempted.
I can still recall seeing signs everywhere (mostly in the 60's
and 70's). "We need a few good men", or Uncle Sam pointing as if
we were about to be sent to our rooms without dinner for the
rest of a war we didn't understand, or be placed in front of a
classroom to deliver a speech about the same topic...most of us
didn't finish that assignment, some had written only 2 paragraphs,
some hadn't begun, other's had finished- but were too afraid to
read it in front of the class. Who could think? We had to pass
those damn signs of Uncle Sam pointing "I need you!" etc.
Thirty - 40 years later, Uncle Sam has put a tight hold on us, like
a Boa.
It is time to tell, the truth. I had that opportunity for quite a
few years, but stopped like a horse with a tightened hackamore.
NO MORE! This minuteperson, is ready to ride a trusty ass, with
only a halter...SO - I'm praying my brothers & sisters will be
very close when we yell, "The DEA's are coming -The DEA'S are coming!"
If you wish to help or join us ring in this way or join together
in April 2001, as patients must go to the Hill, since they won't
give us the time (other than lip service & form letters) in our own
States or Districts.
At the moment, Wisconsin is very news oriented...Wisconsinites are
munching on fingernails, as we are terrified to see if Gov. Tommy
Thompson takes Donna Shalala's post at HHS. Does he even have his
CNA Certificate? How about Basic First Aid? Can we ask him just 10
basic medical questions? If he can't answer 8 out of 10, Sec. of
Transportation might seem a better choice. He has more reliable
lifelines. Maybe we should let Regis decide!!!
Maybe he should remain the Gov., and let the homeless warmup by
the fireplace in ?his? office...plenty of room for cots too.
That would be HUMANE!!!
Just a pinch of reality,
Jacki Rickert
