Medical Marijuana bill introduced
into Wisconsin Legislature
On January 14, 2002, Assembly Bill
715, sponsored by Representatives Boyle, Pocan, Skindrud, Sherman, Schneider, Berceau, Gronemus, Carpenter, Miller and
Plouff, was introduced into the Wisconsin Legislature.
Unfortunately, due to the
introduction late in the 2001-2002 legislative session, with only two
months remaining in the regular session, the bill ended up bottled up in
the Criminal Justice Committee, where it saw no action, and is now
functionally dead for the session.
More information on this bill,
including a link to download a copy of the bill in PDF format can be
found on the Wisconsin Legislature website at: http://www.legis.state.wi.us/2001/data/AB715hst.html.
Supporters are encouraged
to contact their Assembly and Senate representatives and ask for their
support on the bill, which sponsors have promised to reintroduce next
January. With this being an election year with the entire Assembly and
half the Senate up for reelection this November, as well as a hotly
contested race for governor, supporters should also take the opportunity
to sound out candidates positions and ask their support.
